Black Rock's latest shows a lot of promise, but is there enough for seasoned racing veterans to keep coming back? With destructible environments and high-speed manoeuvres, this is one surprisingly good racer...
  • Exciting racing with plenty of stand-out moments. Nice variety in the track selection and modes. Satisfying destruction. Well structured career.
  • Frame rate stable but not as fast as it should be for this style of racer. Rubber band AI will be frustrating for some. Online racing car selection limited to offline career unlocks. Some replays would’ve been nice.

Split Second isn't just the best of these two games, it's an excellent game in its own right. It's easy to imagine it as the first in a long-running series. But if Blur has any chance of building into a franchise, the developers will need to head back to the drawing board to recover from this disappointing first outing.

Think about your favourite car chase of all time; a subjective endeavour, certainly, but not one without merit. For every person that immediately thinks Bullitt, there’s another that will endorse The French Connection, and for that person there’s anoth...
  • Pure may have been impressive, but Black Rock’s latest racer proves that narrowing and refining its scope, while keeping the imagination, pays dividends. The season mode’s events have enough variation to easily hold interest, but get a friend over and...
